Loved this trip. The ship was very nice. Cabin stewards kept our cabin clean and tidy. Help and excursion desk were helpful and got it done. Perfect cabin one down from Lido 20 steps to elevators. Getting on and off were quick and efficient. Loved the talks on each port. And the food, Wonderful.

Our First Cruise Anywhere--Magical Alaska!
July
Pros: Superior service from the beginning to the end. From our travel agent, Sylvia, to the the crew and luggage handlers as we disembarked at the end, it was smooth and efficient.
Cons: Can't think of any, except that the fantastic entertainment was too short!! Is that a con???
Recommended: Yes
It was truly a magical experience. Our cruiseline, Holland America was outstanding from our perspective of first time raisers. The smaller ship, only 2200 passengers, made it easy to find friends from day one. The servers were friendly and remembered us from day to day. My favorite was a young woman, Danna, who actually remembered what I liked on my yogurt every morning after the first time I ordered it! Now, that's an emoyee who cares about her guests and her quality of service! And we found this to be the case with other personnel, as well. However, we chose Alaska for the wildlife and scenery, and we were not disappointed. From the port destinations to Glacier Bay to the hundreds of whales--including one rambunctious Orca playing right next to the ship, who breached just as I walked out of my stateroom onto my deck early in the morning--it was magical! Best decision we ever made!

April trip
April
Pros: Timely Housekeeping, St Thomas and San Juan shore excursions
Cons: beverage package, wi-fi, ship entertainment and daily activities
Recommended: No
Beverage package barely covers popular drinks. Felt we were 'nickel and dime' on every drink. A dollar more here and there with 18% gratuity. Poor transparency on charges. Wi-Fi package that was included covered only one device at a time unless you upgraded. Had to go to Guest Services to get logged on, not intuitive at all. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was fine for breakfast and lunch or light snack. Specialty dinner at Pinnacle Grill was very enjoyable.

Pros: Beautiful sites. Clean ship. Easy on and off at all ports.
Cons: Feeling of Staff shortages compared to our other cruises , the staff was very hard working and friendly just seemed like thier should have been more of them.

Son & Anung provided outstanding service for us and our stateroom needs. We used the laundry service twice, very pleased with how it was handled.by Navi and the laundry team. The Neptune Lounge Staff did an outstanding job of answering our questions and providing a nice place to sit and enjoy the food and drink provided.

Great Alaskan Cruise
June
Pros: Clean, friendly staff, great food, great itinerary esp. Glacier Bay
Cons: Too early in year to see the salmon run
Recommended: Yes
Well run ship, clean, friendly staff, great food, really liked having on the staff a naturalist who gave presentations and met with guests while looking for whales and other wildlife. We also really enjoyed the park rangers who came on board in Glacier Bay. They explained what we were seeing while we cruised by the glaciers.

Amazing Trip, Great Crew
September
Pros: Lovely crew, nice rooms, great food, perfect itinerary
Cons: A lot of bars and we don't drink, but that's not the ship's fault
Recommended: Yes
We went as our 7 year anniversary/long-delayed original honeymoon plan, and our room porter Asriel made sure we felt special every time he turned our room or passed us in the hallway. The crew was always smiling; the director of activities, Ryan, made us feel like experienced cruisers with all the info he shared, and the food was amazing, especially at Tamarind where our server was Monica, and she remembered me as we disembarked. The stops were perfect and just long enough. I only wish we were still on the ship :)

They ran drills when we were in port. I have never seen that… I thought that was great. The food was good but would like more fruit and vegetables. The Capt. inspired trust. Ship is so pretty, with a lot of nice sitting/viewing areas. Food was very good, staff was great, always smiling, asking if you needed anything, etc. Embarkation/debarkation very fast (as long as you had all paper work and apps filled out ahead of time). Apps were easy to fill out though.

Great Trip To Alaska
August
Pros: Good, consistent service, friendly crew, helpful staff
Cons: Lido buffet food OK, crowded and narrow area, must buy beverage packages for everyone in the cabin even if only one person wants it
Recommended: Yes
This ship is an older ship, yet still in great condition. There are always crew members cleaning. The BB King band was outstanding, the Lincoln Center entertainment very good. Comedians weren't very funny, not top notch performers. This is a smaller ship, good for intimacy, yet lacks the variety of entertainment and food options. Depends on what you are looking for. Dining room service was good overall. The food variety was good, smaller portions worked for me, yet some would say the portions are too small. I say, order another meal, it's that simple. Lido food didn't look very appealing, so we avoided for all meals except some breakfasts which was fine. I give this ship, the crew, the food in general and the limited entertainment a thumbs-up.

Eurodam May 2019 Cruise to Alaska
May
Pros: Felt welcome and taken care of by ship's staff from the moment we boarded to the moment we disembarked. The Signature Suite met all needs and expectations - loved having two sinks in the bathroom as well as a full bathtub with jacuzzi! Also included a separate shower. Food and wine selection was extensive and extraordinary. Appreciated the skill/artistry of Lincoln Center performers.
Cons: Only one place to order to order a specialty coffee.
Recommended: Yes
Loved the decor, artwork, amenities of this "classic" cruise ship. No bells and whistles for the kids (slides, go carts, etc.) which I appreciated. The cruise director inserted helpful and informative commentary/instructions when needed without trying to "entertain" or show off.

We sailed out of Seattle and that was perfect for us. On the ship it was easy to get on and off. The food was fantastic, and the service awesome. However we did not feel there was enough to do on the ship while we were sailing. We think the next time we will try another cruise line. We have cruised on others to compare this opinion.

I heard several comments from other cruisers on the ship that it was one of the friendliest cruises they had been on. Pros: Very clean ship, friendly staff, lots of entertainment, delicious food
Cons: None

This was our first cruise and needless to say, we had a blast and even put down a deposit for another cruise in the future. Our stateroom was the perfect size for us and Erik, our room attendant always remembered our names and left us cute animals made of towels each night. Booking excursions was simple and getting on and off the boat was a breeze! The food was delicious as well. Definitely recommend the Dive In for some burgers and fries and NY Pizza place for some pizza. We only dined out one night, that was a the Pinnacle Grill and the steaks were amazing! The boat was more for the "older" crowd, but we didn't mind at all! Lots to do and loved every minute of it!

Our first ever cruise
January
Pros: Beautiful locations, ship, and accommodations; loved the food in Lido, easy boarding and efficient disembarkation.
Cons: Definitely an older crowd (average age around 70), Main dining room food was extra fancy without a less exotic option (still tasty for the most part), not a lot of “included” entertainment and the evening shows were ok at best
Recommended: Yes
This was our first cruise and we had a great time. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary with this trip and it fit our timeline, destinations, and budget. There were more costs that we were not really aware of going in to the process, but i guess that can be normal. The staff were very friendly and worked really hard! The ship was clean and well maintained. We booked excursions separately from the cruise ship offerings and am really glad as many of the ship trips were geared to their older clients. The excursions made our trip very fun and memorable. We also encountered some pretty rough seas which the ship did not seem to handle well (we are told this is a small ship so it doesn’t have the extra stablizers). Overall, we enjoyed our first cruise and while we would not necessarily choose Holland America if we ever do cruise again, it was delightful to get away and this was a lovely ship!

Our only other cruise was also on HAL to Alaska over 10 years ago, which we loved. We booked HAL because for my 50th birthday and it caters to an older crowd. We prefer to be "the young ones" on the ship rather than surrounded by true kiddies the whole week. We also saved longer so that we could have a Neptune Suite as we were upgraded last time and didn't feel we could enjoy it with anything lower than that. Well worth it! Weather was great the whole time. Staff was very attentive and nice. Stewards, concierge and staff in the Tamarind made an effort to know and remember our names...which is a nice touch. Access to the Neptune Lounge and our own concierge was well worth the price of a suite. Food was generally good to very good throughout, but we were pleasantly surprised by the Tamarind. We're not big Asian foodies, but the location, decor, staff, and food was just outstanding there. Far better than the Pinnacle Grill, which impressed us in Alaska but felt not as good on this trip. I guess our only beef is that we wanted to dance but there was nothing offered at a reasonable hour that wasn't the eardrum-shattering experience in the BB King Blues Lounge. The music was good in there and everyone raves about it, but it was just too loud for us. (In that sense, we were not 'the young ones' on the ship!)

June
Pros: superb service, good food, great itinerary,
Cons: No transportation provided between Venicemain Piazza Roma to the ship, poor enterainment, front desk ( Purser's desk) staff poorly trained and unresponsive.

Great itinerary but ship shuttle service in multiple ports was poor or non-existant. Ship itself is in great condition, with good service, fine food in dining room and lido buffet, slow in-room food delivery. Entertainment was sad ( incomprehensible mainstage production shows, unfunny comedian, poor stale illusionist. Excellent classical string quartet in separate area. Embarkation poorly done, debarkation in Barcelona excellent, although we were in line on the pier for one hour to get a cab due to poor efficiency of the Barcelona port staff.

Overall, we were satisfied with the cruise and had a great experience. We had sailed on the Oosterdam with Holland America in 2008. We liked that ship better, and the service on the Eurodam was spotty at times and not as good as we remember from our previous cruise on the Oosterdam.

August
Pros: Small size means less crowds. Excellent staff and service. Clean, clean, clean.
Cons: None
Recommended: Yes
This ship has perhaps the friendliest crew I have ever experienced on any cruise ship we have been on. The food onboard is wonderful and served by the most pleasant staff. Everthing sparkles and every area of the ship is clean.

Pros: Amazing itinerary. Excellent port excursion guides
Cons: Norwegian port excursions were pricey

Overall exquisite itinerary. Holland America has been the highest per day cost we have ever had. Have used Princess, Norwegian, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean in the past.

July
Pros: Food and service level
Cons: HAL excursions and ship vibrations
Recommended: Yes
Ship: The ship was good size with lots of options for eating, drinking, walking, exercising, relaxing, or reading. It was very clean with hand sanitizer dispensers spread throughout the ship. The pool was a little on the small size, but most people were very content to use the lounge chairs around the pool and just relax. The "adult pool" was a smoker's paradise so we avoided it. Not a lot of kids, maybe a 20 or so. HAL definitely caters to an older demographic. The only negative about the ship was a very noticeable constant vibration throughout the ship that got to be very annoying at times. The group at the dinner table next to us had to change tables it got so bad. Service: Holland America has it down pat. Service was great starting with check-in. It only took about 30 minutes to check-in. Getting on/off the ship for excursions was quick and efficient. On board, the staff was polite, friendly, and always greeted you with a smile. After the second day, the cabin attendants and waiters knew our names. That was nice. FOOD: There's lots of it. The selection, variety, and presentation was good. Lines were generally not a problem except on "at sea" days. Food ranged from good to very good, occasionally raising to excellent, sometimes dropping to average. The prices for beverages were reasonable, similar to what you would find in any restaurant in any city. The Tamarind restaurant was exceptional for dinner ... worth the $20 up charge. (I didn't like lunch at the Tamarind.) Hint for future travelers: Have breakfast in the Rembrandt restaurant; table service with real menus, no up charge, and no crowds. Entertainment: I rate the entertainment 7 out of 10 (very subjective rating). We both thought the standup comic and the BB King band were great! One of the "song & dance performances" was just average, the second one was very good. Cabin: We had a VB category cabin on deck 5 and it was just right for us. The room was good size with a real bathtub. The bed was comfortable. We didn't use the deck very much, the weather on the Baltic Sea was a little cold and windy. Drinks: As indicated above, the prices of alcoholic beverages were reasonable. Mid tier bottles of wine at dinner ranged from $20 to $40. Beer/wine/mixed drinks: $5-$10. The beverage packages however seemed very expensive to us once you read the fine print. You would have to be in a state of perpetual inebriation with cheap booze to break even. Excursions: The HAL shore excursions are outrageously priced. It seems HAL counts on people not doing their homework. Public transportation and Hop-On/Hop-Off buses were generally available right at the docks. Third party companies offer almost identical tours with as good or better service at significantly less cost than HAL. We used SPB in St Petersburg and Warnemunde and they were excellent! We booked it on-line prior to the trip. We paid about 30% less and they were better tours that included lunches. Same with airport transfers. HAL charges $40+ per person compared to $10 on public transportation. Admittedly, you have to schlep around you own luggage to/from the ship, but for us it was worth it. We got into Copenhagen 2 days early and got the Copenhagen card which included free rides on all the city buses and trains. Up selling: The biggest nuisance on the ship was the constant "up selling". I understand it, but just don't like it. There was always someone from HAL trying to sell you something; another cruise, or something from the gift shop, or a drink package, or a surcharge for one of the upscale restaurants, or a photo package, or very expensive paintings from the art gallery. It was like a bad vacuum cleaner salesman: you just couldn't avoid them. Internet: Based upon previous reviews, we avoided the HAL on-ship Internet. A 300 baud modem and teletype machine is faster and more reliable. I can understand slow service in the middle of the sea, but there is no excuse for slow service in ports. The HAL web site is very good, so they understand the technology. I have to assume it is a management decision to offer poor service. All we wanted was to get email, se we just brought our smart phones or tablets with us when we get off the ship. There were Tourist Information centers and/or terminals at the docks that had free Wi-Fi. In the cities, there were lots of locations we picked up free Wi-Fi; coffee shops, restaurants, public squares, department stores, outside of hotels, and city hall type locations. We were successful 60 - 70% of the time getting on. The HOHO buses had free Wi-Fi on the buses that was very good.

Our room was very dusty and decor on ship was dark and old looking. Some of the furniture had worn out seats and arms on chairs broken. May scratched seats in the theatre.

November
Pros: great ship and crew
Cons: shore excursion personnel
Recommended: Yes
We booked 2 shore excursions and along with our docs we received a dvd with a non refundable sticker. My husband always checks our cruise statement at least twice during the cruise and discovered the $20 charge for the dvd. I immediately took the dvd to the business office and was directed to the shore excursion office. The charge was removed but I was told no one returns them. Not a comfortable feeling.

Excellent staff on the trip. Very nice and always engaging. The meals were good. Should have more casual forms of dining. The pizza had zero taste! The cabin was excellent and service on it top notch. The ability to get on and off the ship easily was excellent.

April
Pros: Service, food, staff and state room
Cons: Up selling on everything, entertainment and ports were lame
Recommended: No
Ship was clean, staff was excellent food (and amount) fantastic. What we didn't appreciate was, no matter which service we "indulged" in such as a massage, every person we spoke to tried to sell us "something we must use". They couldn't just give us the service. I mean, I don't mind paying twice as much for something like a massage, when I am on a cruise ship, it goes with the territory. BUT, do not push everything on us. It got to the point where we avoided the staff. I couldn't work out in the gym because, "I needed insoles", I couldn't pass the salon after my manicure, because I did not purchase the body scrub, etc.. And the ports, don't get me started on that.. EVERY one was the same. We had 7 stops and all they were was a chance for the ship to up sell their tours or the locals trying to sell complete junk... Never again will we cruise. We enjoyed and made the best of it, just very disappointed in the whole experience. We are in our 50's by the way.. One last thing, the entertainment on the ship was boring or non existent.

Pros: Great main dining room. Pinnacle was very nice. Thermal pool and spa were great, but over priced.
Cons: Lido restaurant was difficult to get around and to find a clean table. Staff limited portions when serving you from the line. First 48 hours was all staff served due to health reasons. No adult only pool like on Celebrity.

Eurodam, July 20, 2013
July
Pros: The wonderful staff
Cons: Entertainment
Recommended: No
I sailed on the Eurodam July 20, 2013 starting Copenhagen, sailing to Norway, Scotland and Ireland. This is a modern ship with all of the best features of cruising. Nice sized rooms and bathrooms, multiple dining venues, multiple entertainment venues and wonderful staff. Boarding was quick and easy. I checked in before our boarding time and found out our room was ready for me. I headed straight up to the Lido for lunch, lots of stations which helps with crowd control. Usually no more than a handful of people at any one station. The carpet in the Lido is a mess from the chairs digging holes into it. It is my understanding that the ship is being refurbished before the end of the year so this should be addressed at that time. I can’t say enough about the crew. Everyone was extremely helpful, polite and friendly. The Blues club on board had the best entertainment, very talented musicians. The shows in the main lounge were not to my taste but other people on board were happy with them. Pinnacle Grill had the absolutely best food on the ship. I also tried Le Cirque, also located in Pinnacle Grill on select nights and just as good but with a more gourmet presentation.
